Director ofChildren’s Ministry.
This is not the supervision of a nursery. It is the discipleship of every child in our care, and the equipping of the volunteers and parents who stand alongside them.
The Role
Not a nursery.
A ministry.
Christ the King Baptist Church exists to glorify God by equipping and encouraging Christian families to raise dedicated disciples of Jesus. We are an elder-led congregation committed to sound theology, expository preaching, and the conviction that children raised with high standards and taught sound doctrine become the catalysts for renewal in the generation that follows.
The Director of Children’s Ministry carries that conviction week to week, from the nursery through fifth grade.
We hold that parents are the primary teachers of their children, because God assigned them that duty. Our children’s ministry does not replace the home. It resources it. Your work is to put tools in the hands of parents and children alike, so that both understand what we believe, why we believe it, and how to defend it.
This role serves under the authority of the Lead Pastor and the Elders. You set the pace of the ministry and run it day to day, while curriculum, programming, and direction are carried out in submission to elder leadership. New initiatives come to the Elders before they launch.
We are looking for someone who leads well and is glad to be led.
What You Will Do
The work.
Eleven responsibilities, one aim: every child in our care taught the Word of God, and every family equipped to keep teaching it at home.
Sunday Classes
Lead our classes for nursery through 5th grade. Select the curriculum, prepare the volunteers, and make sure every room is ready to teach well.
Awana on Wednesdays
Direct our midweek program for all of children’s ministry. Train the leaders and recruit the volunteers it takes to keep it healthy.
Vacation Bible School
VBS belongs to this role. Planning begins about six months out. The week itself runs close to full-time, and the church pays for those hours.
Children’s Events
Christmas, Easter, Fall Festival, Promotion Sunday, and family nights through the year.
Awards Program
Keep the list of children who earn awards, order the medals and lanyards, and lead the ceremony.
Volunteer Team
Recruit, screen, train, and schedule. Teach volunteers to find their own fill-in. When a gap is still open, you cover it.
Safety in Every Room
Know our child safety policy, the check-in and check-out steps, and the adult ratios for each age group, and make sure every volunteer knows them too.
Babies and Toddlers
Train volunteers on nursery safety: choking hazards, allergy name tags, and clear communication with parents about each child.
Partner with Parents
Keep families informed, and give them simple tools they can use at home during the week.
Ministry Budget
The church provides a budget and a church card. Track what you spend and steward it well.
Church Leadership
Join staff meetings and the regular check-ins with the Elders.
Answer the Call
If God is leading you to serve the next generation, we want to hear from you.

Leads well.
Glad to be led.
Experience matters. Character matters more. Here is who we are praying for.
A growing disciple of Jesus Christ who can articulate the gospel clearly and defend it when it is questioned.
Full agreement with the doctrine, mission, and practice of CTKBC, and a life that reflects it inside and outside the building.
A teacher’s instinct. You can take sound doctrine and make it land with a five year old without watering it down.
Leadership that multiplies. You can recruit, train, and keep a volunteer team, not simply fill a schedule each week.
A readiness to be led. You will set the pace of this ministry while carrying out the direction of the Lead Pastor and Elders.
Order under pressure. You can plan six months ahead for VBS and still absorb a volunteer who cancels on Saturday night.
Experience serving or leading in children’s ministry, with training that fits the role.
Willingness to complete a background check and uphold every child safety standard we carry.
Hours and Schedule
Real hours.
Honest pay.
averaged over the year
Sundays and Wednesdays, plus events through the year. The weeks are not the same size. Twenty hours is the average across the year, not a ceiling on every week. Christmas and Easter each add 10 to 15 hours of planning.
You are paid for the hours you work. Turn in your real hours, including the heavy weeks. We would rather correct a high month than discover you worked for free.
What You Can Expect From Us
You will not carry it alone.
- A ministry budget and a church card, so you can buy what your classes need.
- The Personnel Team runs and tracks every volunteer background check. You identify who needs one and send them over.
- Building access outside of service hours, so you can work when you need to.
- Monthly check-ins with your supervising elder and quarterly meetings with staff. We want to hear how you are doing before it gets hard.
Why It Matters
“We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”Psalm 78:4 (ESV)
