What We Believe

Orthodox.Baptist.Church.

Being an Orthodox Baptist Church means that we affirm 13 historical-theological distinctives.

What Is an Orthodox Baptist Church?

Three words.
13 distinctives.

We are an Orthodox Baptist Church, and every word carries weight. Each one opens into the historical-theological distinctives we affirm. Select any one to read it.

The 13 Distinctives

What we affirm.

Grouped by three words: Orthodox, Baptist, and Church.

I – V

Orthodox

Historical, Trinitarian, Creedal, Multi-Ethnic, & Liturgical

I

Orthodox

Historical

It is true that our beliefs come from the Bible and not tradition.

However, we are significantly rooted in the long and rich history of Christianity.

II

Orthodox

Trinitarian

We worship and serve the one, true, and living God who eternally exists as One Being and Three Persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

We will teach the true doctrine of the Trinity, expose heretical and apostate views about God, and ensure that our private and corporate worship is based on God’s self-disclosing revelation.

III

Orthodox

Creedal

We express an appreciation for and appropriation of the early creedal statements as a faithful representation of biblical truth (Apostles’ Creed; Nicene Creed; Definition of Chalcedon).

We will use the creeds to teach the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3). We will not treat the creeds as Scripture, but as abbreviated statements of faith based on Scripture.

IV

Orthodox

Multi-Ethnic

Christianity has spread to the nations and, by God’s grace, will continue to include persons from every ethnic group.

We reject any claims of racial or national superiority by those outside of Christendom. No nation, no race, and no ethnicity can rightly claim to be God’s chosen people. God’s chosen people are from every nation, tribe, tongue, and kindred who have confessed faith in and allegiance to Jesus Christ.

V

Orthodox

Liturgical

Our gatherings are governed and ordered by Scripture to demonstrate and communicate the gospel of the Triune God.

We reject any approach to worship that is not based on, ordered by, and subject to God’s Word. We generally follow a regulative principle; however, we base our approach on the formative principle. Put simply, we worship God the way His Word commands, and we let Scripture shape the order of every service. We are committed to order our worship on two major scriptural truths:

a)the Triune God, and
b)a Gospel narrative.

VI – IX

Baptist

Biblical, Theological, Confessional, & Missional

VI

Baptist

Biblical

We affirm that both the Old and New Testaments are Christian Scripture.

The Bible is inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative, and sufficient. We hold that the Bible is the sole authority for matters of faith and the ultimate authority on all other matters, including the sciences, law, education, politics, et al. We reject the false teaching that divides the Bible as the “Jewish” (the Old Testament) and “Christian” (the New Testament) scriptures. All of Scripture belongs to Christians.

VII

Baptist

Theological

We affirm the progressive nature of divine revelation, the primacy of the New Testament, and the Apostolic doctrine and interpretation as authoritative.

VIII

Baptist

Confessional

We are credo-Baptists.

As such, we hold that every Christian must consciously, individually, and publicly profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, Savior, and King. Baptism by immersion is the first public act whereby a person professes faith in Jesus Christ. The Lord’s Supper (i.e., Communion) is an ongoing profession of faith wherein Christians unite in a public confession of ongoing and living faith in Jesus Christ.

IX

Baptist

Missional

We are committed to the evangelization of all peoples and nations with the expressed purpose of converting individuals to Christ and transforming every area of life to the Law and Lordship of Christ.

X – XIII

Church

Regenerational, Covenantal, Congregational, & Consummational

X

Church

Regenerational

Church membership is limited to only those who have been born again (made alive spiritually) by the Holy Spirit, have professed saving faith in Jesus Christ, and continue to live as a testimony to His ongoing work of sanctification.

XI

Church

Covenantal

Church membership is a substantial and sacrificial commitment to worship and serve the Triune God in a corporate covenant with other like-minded Christians.

This commitment requires active participation in the church’s life, worship, and mission.

XII

Church

Congregational

We acknowledge elders as shepherds called to lead the church and deacons as servants of Christ called to minister to the church.

We affirm the priesthood and equality of all Christians in Christ.

XIII

Church

Consummational

We confess the church as the body of Christ, the bride of Christ, the Temple of God, and the Chosen People of God through whom God will advance His Kingdom until the final revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Church is the Israel of God.

Liturgical Worship

Worship ordered by the Word.

Our gatherings are governed and ordered by Scripture to demonstrate and communicate the gospel of the Triune God. We are committed to order our worship on two major scriptural truths:

a)The Triune God
b)A Gospel Narrative
